Pg. 14-18, pl. 1 (geol. map). Puritan Quartz Monzonite. An intrusive igneous body in the Puritan-Van Buskirk pluton. Is a mostly pale pinkish gray, medium- to coarse-grained, porphyritic quartz monzonite; is generally homogenous in both texture and composition. Consists of plagioclase, quartz, and microcline, and small amounts of chlorite, biotite, muscovite, and epidote. Intrudes Ramsay Formation and Whiskers Creek Gneiss (both new). Locally cut by dikes of Sunset Creek Intrusive Complex (new). Grades into Van Buskirk Gneiss (new). Age is early Precambrian (Precambrian W); [late Archean].
[Type locality]: extensive exposures near the site of the old Puritan Mine, south of community of Puritan, in SW/4 sec. 17 and NW/4 sec. 20, T. 47 N., R. 46 W., [Bessemer 7.5-min quadrangle], western Gogebic Co., Northern Peninsula, northwestern MI.
