Named as member in uppermost part of Sespe Formation. Type locality designated as exposures in Piuma Road and at head of Carbon Canyon, NE/4 sec.21 T1S R17W, Santa Monica Mountains, east-central Malibu Beach quad, Los Angeles Co, CA. Consists of gray, grayish-red and olive-gray sandstone and sandstone-mudstone sequence. Is 342 m thick. Conformably overlies undivided Sespe Formation; intertongues with undivided Vaqueros Formation; conformably underlies Saddle Peak Member (new) (Topanga Canyon Formation). Is early Miocene age.
