Summary:

Type area: Newell Road, Santa Monica Mountains, west central Malibu Beach quad, Los Angeles Co, CA. Is third youngest member (of 6) of Calabasas Formation. Consists of sandstone, shaly siltstone, dolomitic concretions in siltstone. Forms poorly sorted turbidites. Is 244 m thick. Conformably overlies Dry Canyon Sandstone Member (new) (Calabasas Formation); intertongues with Malibu Bowl Tongue (new) (Conejo Volcanics); conformably underlies Mesa Peak Breccia (new) (Calabasas Formation). Is middle Miocene age.
