Summary:

Monongahela raised to group rank in southwestern PA. Includes lower Pittsburgh Formation and upper Uniontown Formation. Pittsburgh Formation consists of strata from base of Pittsburgh coal bed to base of Uniontown coal bed, and includes lower unnamed member, Redstone, Fishpot and Sewickley Members, and upper unnamed member. Sewickley Member includes Benwood Limestone Bed. Uniontown consists of unnamed lower and upper members, and includes strata from base of Uniontown coal bed to base of Waynesburg coal bed; Waynesburg coal bed, formerly included as uppermost bed of Monongahela Formation, is reassigned to base of overlying Waynesburg Formation (revised). Age is Late Pennsylvanian.
