Named Massacre Bay Formation. Consists of coarse sandstone, conglomerate, tuff, and basaltic andesite lava flows. Is at least 500 feet thick. Unconformably overlies basement rocks. Age is probably late Tertiary or early Pleistocene age, based on stratigraphic relations and glacial features.
Type area designated near Massacre Bay, east-central Attu Island, Near Islands, Aleutian Islands, southwestern AK. Also occurs on Lookout Mountain, in Peaceful Valley, on Loaf Island, and on Chirikof Point.
