Woodruff, J.G., 1942, Geology of the Wellsville quadrangle, New York: New York State Museum Bulletin, no. 326, 135 p., (incl. geologic maps)

Summary:

Pg. 17 (fig. 1), 47-50. Germania formation of Conneaut group. Uppermost formation in Conneaut group. Overlies Whitesville formation (new); underlies Wolf Creek member of Cattaraugus formation. Thickness about 70 feet. Consists of thin green sandstones interbedded with red shales, with the "Catskill" cross-bedded sandstone and conglomerate beds at different horizons, varying with the locality. Base of formation is recognized by the red color of the soil marking the earliest appearance of the real reds of the "Catskill." Age is Late Devonian.
Type outcrop: on south flank of Marshfield anticline, near Germania, Potter Co., north-central PA. Can be traced over most of Wellsville quadrangle, Allegany Co., NY.

Summary:

Pg. 17 (table 2), 19. Germania formation of Chadakoin group. Uppermost formation in Chadakoin group. Inasmuch as Upper Devonian strata are still not thoroughly understood, a more or less permanent classification satisfactory to a majority of workers may not be obtained for some time.
