Fredonia limestone, here named, is a white oolitic limestone interbedded with blue oolite, thin bands of subcrystalline and crinoidal limestones, and seams of green clay shale and fine-grained argillaceous limestone. Thickness probably 150 ft. Basal member of Ste. Genevieve limestone. Underlies Rosiclare sandstone member of Ste. Genevieve and overlies, probably unconformably, St. Louis limestone.

Blue River Group of IN is here revised. Both in the subsurface and at the surface it is now divided into (ascending) St. Louis, Ste. Genevieve, and Paoli Limestones. Ste. Genevieve in the subsurface divided into (ascending) Fredonia, Karnak, and Joppa Members, which are basically equivalent to members of the same name in IL. Fredonia is stratigraphically extended in this study to include the equivalent to both the Fredonia and Spar Mountain Members as previously used on the outcrop in Indiana. Lost River Chert Bed marks the base of the Fredonia Member and therefore the base of the Ste. Genevieve. Spar Mountain and Levias no longer used in Indiana.

Used as Mississippian (Valmeyeran) Fredonia Member of Ste. Genevieve Limestone in IN. Authors follow usage of Droste and Carpenter (1990).
