Fort Adams is upper member of Newport Neck Formation. Unit crops out in the north-central portion of Newport Neck, mainly within the confines of Fort Adams State Park and along south shore of Newport Harbor. No stratigraphic top has been identified. All members of the Newport Neck contain well-graded litharenite turbidites and interbedded siltstone and shale, but only Fort Adams contains olistostromes. Overlies Castle Hill Member; in fault contact with Price Neck Formation. Age given as Late Proterozoic. [Intent to name not stated.]

Pg. 22 (table 2), 31-32. Fort Adams Formation. An olistostrome containing lenticular to rounded masses of dolomite and quartzarenite. Approximate thickness 230 m; stratigraphic top not identified locally. Overthrusted by Price Neck Formation; contact = Avalon fault. Overlies Castle Hill Member of Newport Neck Formation. Age is probably Late Proterozoic, [based on stratigraphic and structural relations]; possibly Cambrian, but older than Pirate Cave Formation.
[Authors state rank raised to formation because of comparable thickness to the Newport Neck Formation. Previously called Fort Adams Member of Newport Neck Formation (Bailey and others, 1989, GSA Spec. Paper 228), and informal Fort Adams member of informal Newport formation (Rast and Skehan, 1981a, NEIGC 73rd Ann. Mtg., Trip B-2, p. 69; Rast and Skehan, 1981b, Geology, v. 9, no. 12, p. 597).]
