Named as a member in Monongahela formation. Probably named for Fishpot Run, southern Washington Co., western PA. Consists of limestone. Thickness at type locality is 30 ft; thins at WV State line. Separated from overlying Sewickley coal by 10 ft of sandstone and from underlying Redstone coal by 25 ft of sandstone or sandy shale. [Age is Pennsylvanian.]

Pittsburgh lithologic units revised as one formation in Monongahela Group (rank raised). Includes (ascending) a lower unnamed member, Redstone Member, Fishpot Member, Sewickley Member, and upper unnamed member. Figure 75.2 shows that strata in the interval represented by Fishpot Limestone of old usage are reassigned to top of Redstone Member (revised) of Pittsburgh Formation. Fishpot Member now includes basal Fishpot coal bed and thin-bedded sandstone [probably the former Fishpot Sandstone Member of the Monongahela Formation]. Age is changed from Pennsylvanian to Late Pennsylvanian.

Fishpot Member consists of mainly siltstone and mudstone between Redstone and Sewickley Members of Pittsburgh Formation of Monongahela Group in PA. Equivalent to Fishpot cyclothem (Monongahela Group) of OH which includes sandstone, redbeds, nonmarine limestone, underclay, and Fishpot coal.
