Summary:

Type locality: exposures in vicinity of Fernwood, secs.18 and 19, T1S, R16W and secs.13 and 24, T1S, R17W, Santa Monica Mountains, Topanga quad, Los Angeles Co, CA. Is middle member of Topanga Canyon Formation. Recognized in Topanga and adjacent Malibu Beach 7.5' quads. Consists of sandstone interbedded with mudstone. Forms thick lenticular ledge-forming beds which are channeled and cross-bedded. Sandstone is fluvial to brackish-water and pebbly. Thickness is greater than 375 m. Conformably overlies and tongues into Saddle Peak Member (new); conformably underlies and tongues into Cold Creek Member (new) (both of Topanga Canyon Formation). Is middle Miocene age.
