Name Farmers Mills Bed was introduced in an abstract by Ciurca (1986: Rochester Acad. Sci. Proc.) for an eurypterid-bearing transitional shale interval in the uppermost Ilion Shale of central NY. This portion of the Ilion, transitional with the overlying Vernon Formation, has been assigned to the Salina Group on lithological grounds. The Farmers Mills Bed is currently recognized between Clinton [Oneida Co.] and Frankfort [Herkimer Co.], NY, and the occurrence at Moyer Creek, near Frankfort, represents the easternmost point from which eurypterid remains are known from the Salina Group. . [Usage of Ilion in this report is in conflict with Art. 28 of the NACSN, which states "* * * a formation or its parts may not be assigned to two vertically adjacent groups."]
