Summary:

[Named for Faneto Hill.] Type locality designated as Faneto Hill, west of West Arm Holtz Bay, northeastern Attu Island, Near Islands, AK. Composed of at least 1500 ft of sub-aerially deposited, poorly sorted, coarsely bedded, coarse red clastic rocks consisting of conglomerate, coarse sandstone and graywacke, and thin argillite lenses. Overlies Chuniksak Formation, of probable Miocene age, with apparent angular unconformity, though contact not seen. Erosional features show that Faneto pre-dated last major Pleistocene glaciation; hence age interpreted as late Tertiary or early Pleistocene.
