Pg. 7-9. Emigrant Pass Member of Zabriskie Quartzite. Present in southeastern California and southern Nevada. Consists of maroon, brown, yellow, pale-green, pink, and white quartzite, sandstone, minor siltstone and phyllitic shale. Quartzite is medium- to coarse-grained. Contains laminated or low-angle cross beds and mudcracks in upper part. Thickness ranges from <1 to 51 m. As uppermost unit and only formal member, overlies main body of Zabriskie Quartzite; underlies Eagle Mountain Shale Member (new) of Carrara Formation. Age is Early Cambrian. (Emigrant Pass Member of Zabriskie Quartzite adopted by the USGS.)
Type locality: exposures north of Emigrant Pass, in NW/4 sec. 25, T. 21 N., R. 8 E., southern Nopah Range, Tecopah quadrangle, Inyo Co., southeastern CA. Named from Emigrant Pass.
