Underlies Sipe Springs formation (new) of Big Saline group; overlies Comyn formation (new) of Marble Falls group (Morrow). Age is Pennsylvanian (Lampasas).
Type section (subsurface): depth-interval 3,870 to 4,132 ft, Roxana Petroleum Company Seaman No. 1 test well, northwest Palo Pinto Co., north-central TX. Named from town of De Leon in northern Comanche Co., TX.
