Summary:

Type locality: exposures on Danielson Ranch, Big Sycamore Canyon, Santa Monica Mountains, Newbury Park quad, Ventura Co, CA. Reference locality: exposures in upper Trancas Canyon, west Point Dume 7.5' quad, Los Angeles, Co, CA. Consists of grayish-black mudstone and siltstone which are very fine-grained, thin- to medium-bedded and fossiliferous with local biostromes. Overlies Sespe Formation; conformably underlies San Nicholas Member (new) (Vaqueros Formation). Is early Miocene age.
