Summary:

Pg. 89, 50 (table 1), 71, pl. 1. Coffeen limestone member of Bond formation (new) of McLeansboro group. Name applied to limestone overlying Witt coal member (new) in southwestern Illinois. Thickness as much as 20 inches. Stratigraphically below Millersville limestone member. Name credited to H.J. Gluskoter (unpub. ms.). Age is Pennsylvanian. Report presents new rock-stratigraphic classification of Pennsylvanian strata in Illinois. Cyclical classification retained but is entirely independent of rock-stratigraphic classification.
Type locality: in NE/4 NW/4 SE/4 sec. 7, T. 8 N., R. 2 W., Hillsboro quadrangle, Montgomery Co., southwestern IL. Named from village of Coffeen, 5 mi southwest of type exposure.
