Summary:

Named derived from Chickabally Mountain near where unit crosses Middle Fork of Cottonwood Creek. Reference section designated along Roaring River, secs.32-35 T30N R7W, Ono 15' quad, Shasta Co, CA. Is member of Budden Canyon Formation (new). Includes mudstone and thin-bedded sandstone and limestone beds lying between underlying Roaring River member and overlying Bald Hills Member (both of Budden Canyon Formation). At reference section, lower 400 to 600 ft of beds are mudstone with thin sandstone interbeds and limestone concretions. Along Roaring River lower part of member is separated from upper part by 10-ft bed of sand and pebbly mudstone interpreted as extension of Huling Sandstone Member (Budden Canyon Formation). Above this bed Chickabally is characterized by siltstone and mudstone with few sandstone beds and with concretions of relatively pure, light-gray-weathering finely crystalline dark-gray limestone. Lower part is about 900 ft thick; upper part about 2600 ft. Age is Cretaceous.

Summary:

Chickabally Mudstone Member of Murphy and others (1964) is here restricted to lower part below Huling Member and above Roaring River Member of Budden Canyon Formation. Likewise type section is restricted to lower 900 ft along Roaring River in secs.32-33 T30N R7W, Ono 15' quad, Shasta Co, CA. Age is Early Cretaceous based on fossils.
