Summary:

Pg. 1693-1697. Buckskin Mountain formation. Predominantly yellowish-buff calcareous siltstone; includes numerous thin interbeds of gray-brown, clean calcisiltite, minor beds of gray calcarenite, and a few beds of brown chert. Thickness about 1,200 feet. Conformably overlies Strathearn formation; conformably underlies Beacon Flat formation. Probably correlative with part of Nolan and others' (1956, USGS Prof. Paper 276, p. 67-68) Carbon Ridge formation in Eureka area, Eureka County, Nevada, and their Garden Valley formation northwest of Eureka. Age is Permian (Wolfcampian), based on fossils (corals) and stratigraphic relations. Report includes measured section, geologic map.
Type section: on north side of Humboldt River at Carlin Canyon "loop" area; base in NW/4 NW/4 SW/4 sec. 22, T. 33 N., R. 53 E., and top in NW/4 SE/4 NW/4 sec. 22, T. 33 N., R. 53 E., [Carlin East 7.5-min quadrangle], Elko Co., northeastern NV. Named from Buckskin Mountain, 3 mi south of type locality [between Carlin and Elko], in Pinon Range.
