Named as middle named member (of 3) of Tuxedni formation. Is well exposed in valley of Bowser Creek and crops out over large area of Iniskin Peninsula, southwestern AK. Consists of thick-bedded to massive sandstone and conglomerate units interbedded with siltstone units. Is about 2600 ft thick. Overlies Cynthia Falls sandstone member; underlies Tonnie siltstone member (both of Tuxedni formation). Contains abundant specimens of INOCERAMUS and TRIGONIA. Age given as Middle Jurassic and may be in part Late(?) Jurassic age.

Bowser Member (of Tuxedni Formation) of Kirschner and Minard (1948) is here restricted to upper part of member and raised in rank to Bowser Formation, uppermost formation (of 6) of Tuxedni Group. Type locality is designated on Tonnie Creek, starting 4500 ft S 47 deg E of Tonnie Peak, continuing upstream for 1500 ft, Iniskin Peninsula, southwestern AK. Ammonites from lower part have been identified by Imlay (1962) as of Bathonian or Callovian age, and from upper part as definitely Callovian. Therefore age is considered to be Middle(?) and Late Jurassic.
