Two flows of hypersthene basalt capping Boreal Ridge, 1 mile north of Beacon Peak, in southeastern part of Donner Pass quadrangle, [Nevada County], eastern California. Age of the Boreal Ridge basalt is Pliocene, based on a radiometric (K-Ar) age on plagioclase of 7.4 +/-0.2 Ma. Report on potassium-argon dating research pertinent to some problems of Cenozoic history of Sierra Nevada.
Sample collected 3,500 feet S. 56 deg. W. from NE/4 sec. 24, T. 17 N., R. 14 E., Donner Pass 15-min quadrangle, at 7,590 ft elevation, [Nevada Co.], eastern CA.
