Summary:

Pg. 12 (fig. 2), 36-37, pls. 1, 2, 3. Bealville fanglomerate. Defined as the unsorted boulder-gravel facies of both overlying Walker and Bena formations. [In vicinity of type section, consists of a light-gray, loosely consolidated mass of unsorted granitic rubble, made up of semi-rounded boulders of quartz diorite up to 3 feet in diameter. Dips southward and attains a thickness of over 7,000 feet. Eastward in vicinity of Caliente, becomes less coarse and is predominately a cobble conglomerate of rounded granitic cobbles and boulders in a loose, sandy or greenish-clay matrix. Lower portion interfingers westward with contemporaneous Walker Formation; upper portion interfingers westward with Bena Gravel (new). Age is Oligocene to early Miocene.]
Type section: exposed along highway southward from Ilmon, Breckenridge Mountain quadrangle, Kern Co., southern CA. [Named from occurrence near Bealville, Breckenridge Mountain quadrangle, Kern Co., southern CA.]

Summary:

Bealville Fanglomerate of Bartow and McDougall (1953) is adopted. Unconformably overlies granitic basement and intertongues westward with Walker Formation. Unconformably underlies Bena Gravel. Unit is restricted to vicinity of Caliente Creek south of Kern River. Is more than 2100 m thick at type section. Age is regarded as late Oligocene and early Miocene based on stratigraphic relations.
