Named from town of Newcastle, Weston Co., WY (Hancock, 1920).
Type section: on northwest side of cut on U.S. Highway 85, 0.4 mi northeast of its junction with U.S. Highway 16, 1 mi east of Newcastle, in NW/4 NW/4 sec. 28, T. 45 N., R. 61 W., Weston Co., WY (Skolnick, 1958).
Type section relocated: along U.S. Highway 85, northern outskirts of Newcastle, in SW/4 SW/4 SW/4 sec. 21, T. 45 N., R. 61 W., Weston Co., WY (Baker, 1962).
