Named from Manitou Springs and Manitou Park, El Paso Co., eastern CO (Cross, 1894).
Type section (Manitou restricted): measured on east side of canyon above the Narrows of Williams Canyon, north of Manitou, in SW/4 sec. 32, T. 13 S., R. 67 W., El Paso Co., eastern CO (Brainerd and others, 1933; Gerhart, 1974).
