Type section: on Apache Hill, at type section of Lake Valley Formation, in NE/4 NW/4 sec. 21, T. 18 S., R. 7 W., Sierra Co., NM. Named from Tierra Blanca Creek, Otero Co., NM, along which are excellent exposures in vicinity of Nunn Ranch (Laudon and Bowsher, 1949).
