Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: on east face of Mount Hope [see Ticonderoga 15-minute quadrangle (pre-1950 ed.) for location] within the northern boundary of village of Ticonderoga, from 0.5 to 1 mi due north of the paper mill [no longer exists]. Top of section in woods northeast of north end of Mount Hope Cemetery [see Ticonderoga 7.5-minute quadrangle, 1950 ed.], eastern Essex Co., northeastern NY. Named credited to John Rodgers, 1955 unpub. ms. (Welby, 1959, 1961).
