Type section: 1.25 mi southeast of village of Renova, along west-facing bluffs on east side of Jefferson River, from NW/4 NW/4 sec. 33, T. 1 N., R. 4 W. to SW/4 NW/4 sec. 28, T. 1 N., R. 4 W., Madison Co., MT. Named from Renova (Kuenzi and Fields, 1971).
Principal reference sections: (1) Pipestone Springs, in NW/4 NW/4 sec. 29, T. 2 N., R. 5 W., Jefferson Co., MT; (2) East Lily, in S/2 sec. 16, T. 2 N., R. 5 W., Jefferson Co., MT; and (3) Lower Parrot Bench, in secs. 23, 26, and 27, T. 1 N., R. 4 W., Madison Co., MT (Kuenzi and Fields, 1971).
