Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: exposure along U.S. Interstate Highway I-280, 2.25 km west of the Orange Mountain Basalt type section, East Orange, Essex Co., NJ. Named from Preakness Mountain, the local name for Second Watchung Mountain (Olsen, 1980).
