Type section: exposures along road cuts north and northeast of Poolesville, Montgomery Co., MD (Lee and Froelich, 1989).
Reference section: outcrops along the northern bluffs of the Potomac River extending west for 2 km (1.2 mi) from the mouth of Seneca Creek, Montgomery Co., MD.
