Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality: series of outcrops above Highgate Falls thrust and on western edge of Highgate Center, Franklin Co., northwestern VT. Formation lies in strip 0.5 to 1 mi wide trending about N. 20 deg. E. from type locality (Shaw, 1958).
[Type area:] upper sequence in gorge of Missisquoi River at Highgate Falls, Franklin Co., northwestern VT (Schuchert, 1937).
Principal development in Highgate Twp., [St. Albans and Enosburg Falls quadrangles, Franklin Co., northwestern VT], where it forms broad area (Keith, 1923).
