Type area: Fossil Ridge, especially [near] head of Comanche Gulch, in secs. 28, and 33, T. 51 N., R. 3 E., Crystal Peak 7.5-min quadrangle, and on Fossil Mountain, in sec. 23, T. 51 N., R. 3 E., Fairview Peak 7.5-min quadrangle, Gunnison Co., south-central CO. Named from Fossil Ridge (DeWitt and others, 2002, USGS Geol. Inv. Ser. Map I-2738, scale 1:30,000, p. 7-10, 13, fig. 5).
