Type section: in secs. 20 and 21, T. 10 N., R. 5 W., Laguna quadrangle, Valencia Co., NM. Named from exposures on east and south side of Clay Mesa, about 3 mi northwest of Laguna, Valencia Co., NM (Landis and others, 1973).
