Type section: on Quantico Marine Base, along Chopawamsic Creek, from a point 1.13 mi and 45 deg. southwest of crossroads of Joplin to a point 2.46 mi and 6 deg. southeast of Joplin, Joplin 7.5-min quadrangle, northeastern VA (Southwick and others, 1971).
