Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: on west side of Sullivan (Yates) Ranch Road from north slope of Lenox Hills to base of "First limestone member" of Word Formation. King's (1931) section 12, Leonard Formation, beds 19 through 38, is designated as type section. Beds are exposed in front of and along base and lower slopes of Cathedral Mountain, [Altuda 15-min quadrangle], Brewster Co., western TX (Cooper and Grant, 1964).
