Type locality: along Caloso Arroyo [unlabeled], south of Ladron Peak and due west of Cerro Colorado, in eastern third sec. 30, T. 2 N., R. 2 W., Silver Creek 7.5-min quadrangle, Socorro Co., central NM. Name credited to E.A. Noble, Univ. New Mexico unpub. MS thesis, 1950 (see Kelley and Silver, 1952; Armstrong, 1958; Armstrong and Mamet, 1976; mapped by S.M. Cather and A.S. Read, 2003, New Mexico Bur. Geol. Min. Res. Open-file Geol. Map OF-GM 75).
