Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section (revised): from NE/4 sec. 11, T. 32 S., R. 34 E., northeastward to base of overlying andesite, in NW/4 sec. 31, R. 35 E., Kern Co., CA (Dibblee and Louke, 1970).
Neostratotype [Principal reference section]: a few mi north of Mojave, along north-northwest transect in unnamed canyon which drains into Pine Tree Canyon, from NW/4 sec. 4, T. 22 S., R. 35 E., to SE/4 sec. 32, T. 31 S., R. 35 E., Cache Peak 7.5-min quadrangle, Kern Co., southern Sierra Nevada, CA (Quinn, 1987; see also Coles and others, SEPM-Pac. Sec., v. 82, p. 21-34).
