Type section: exposed in roadcuts along MT Highway 20, in NE/4 and SW/4 sec. 21, T. 17 N., R. 5 W., Lewis and Clark Co., MT. Named from Big Skunk Creek, major tributary of Middle Fork of Dearborn River (Viele and Harris, 1965).
