Type locality: exposures at mouth of Rattlesnake Creek, in NE/4 sec. 19, T. 1 S., R. 8 E., Pickett Peak quadrangle, Trinity Co., northwest CA. Named from Bear Wallow Meadow in north-central part of Pickett Peak quadrangle (Irwin, 1974).
