Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: along crest of Barren Ridge, which lies on north side of lower reaches of Graptolite Canyon; base of section starts at 4,300 ft elevation, just below elevation point 4,530 ft, and runs northeastward along crest of ridge into western part of sec. 35, T. 25 N., R. 23 W., McGrath 1:250,000 quadrangle, AK. Named from Barren Ridge (Churkin and Carter, 1996).
