Summary:

Named as lowermost member (of 3) of Schrader Bluff formation (new) of Colville group for exposures along Seabee Creek, tributary of Colville River, northern AK, designated as type locality. Also well exposed along Maybe Creek, tributary of Ikpikpuk River. Consists largely of marine sandstone to south and shale to north. Top part contains very distinctive 150-ft fossiliferous paper shale which is low-grade oil shale. Thickness at type is 450 ft. Overlies Niakogon tongue (new) of Chandler formation (new) of Nanushuk group in outcrop area; overlies Topagoruk member (new) of Umiat formation (new) of Nanushuk group to north; underlies Tuluga member (new) of Schrader Bluff formation of Colville group to north and Tuluvak tongue (new) of Prince Creek formation (new) of Colville group to south. Index fossils indicate age is Late Cretaceous.

Summary:

Seabee member of Schrader Bluff formation of Gryc and others (1951) raised in rank to Seabee formation of Colville group to include all marine rocks of Colville group underlying Tuluvak tongue of Prince Creek Formation. Includes in many areas, strata previously assigned to lower part of Tuluga member of Schrader Bluff formation as well as strata assigned to Seabee member. New type locality designated in Umiat test well no.11, 2.5 mi west-northwest of Umiat Mountain between 545 and 2040 ft in subsurface. South of Umiat area, upper part of formation contains lithologically and faunally distinct unit designated as Ayiyak member. Unconformably overlies Ninuluk formation of Nanushuk group at Umiat; in other areas also overlies Niakogon tongue of Chandler formation of Nanushuk group.

Summary:

Lower part of Seabee formation is named Shale Wall member of Seabee formation of Colville group after Shale Wall Bluff. Type section designated as west bank of Nanushuk River at Camp W-June 25-47, Chandler River region, northern AK. Member underlies Ayiyak member (of Seabee formation) named by Detterman (1956). Fossils from Shale Wall member are early Turonian age; fauna present only in Ayiyak member are middle Turonian through Coniacian in age.

Summary:

Pg. 3-5 (figs. 2-4), 6-8 (table 1), 26-29. Seabee Formation. Removed from †Colville Group (abandoned). Restricted to rocks previously assigned to lower †Shale Wall Member (abandoned). Rocks of upper †Ayiyak Member (abandoned) are reassigned to Tuluvak Formation (revised). Overlies Nanushuk and Torok Formations. Underlies and interfingers with Tuluvak to southwest, notably in Chandler River region; underlies Canning Formation to northeast, notably in Kavik River region. Age is Late Cretaceous (late Cenomanian to Coniacian).
