Summary:

Unit is named the Pinehurst Shale. Consists of white to tan siliceous shale and interbedded sandstone. Thickness is 150 m at type. Conformably overlies unnamed Upper Cretaceous shale. Age is Paleocene (Ynezian Stage) based on fossils [foraminifers].
