Summary:

Named as a formation (1 of 5) of gravel of Quaternary age on surfaces of erosion in Hudspeth Co, TX in the Permian basin. Type locality designated on south side of Madden Arroyo in northwest corner Fort Quitman quad. Consists of a gravel of limestone, sandstone, quartzite, conglomerate, and extrusive and intrusive igneous rock fragments, all from local sources; some claystone in layers and angular fragments, probably derived from older basin deposits. Size and shape of fragments are sand to boulders, angular to subangular with some clay. Thickness ranges from 1 to almost 30 ft. Lies 10 to 110 ft above arroyos. Overlies Miser Gravel (new); underlies Gills Gravel (new). Stratigraphic table. Geologic maps.
