Summary:

[Named for Hound Island] Type locality: shores of Hound Island Keku Strait area, southeast AK. Crops out over much of Keku Straits area. At type 2000 ft thick, varies from several hundred feet on Kuiu Island to more than 2000 ft on northwest Kupreanof Island near Cape Bendel. Primarily basaltic pillow breccia and pillow lava, andesitic volcanic breccia, and aquagene tuff with some thin bedded limestone. Individual flows range from 2 to 50 ft with polygonal jointing. Aquagene tuff medium to thick beds with some graded and cross bedding; glass in varying stages of alteration. Tuffaceous boulder conglomerate at base. Conformably overlies and interbedded with Hamilton Island Limestone and Burnt Island conglomerate. Disconformably overlies Hamilton Island Limestone and Cornwallis Limestone. Uppermost formation of Hyd Group. Fossils, mostly HALOBIA and MONOTIS, contained in limestone; most are early or middle Norian; some are late Karnian. Age is Late Triassic.
