Summary:
Named the Hooker slate for Hooker Hill, Rutland Co., southwestern VT. Consists of black slate that exhibits less cleavage than usual in the region. No fossils are known, but it appears to be more closely associated with Lower Cambrian formations than with overlying Ordovician. Overlies the Beebe limestone and underlies the Poultney slate with a great hiatus. The Hooker is of Early Cambrian age.
