Summary:

Named as a formation (1 of 5) of gravel of Quaternary age on surfaces of erosion in Hudspeth Co, TX in the Permian basin. Type locality designated on west side of Arroyo Calero about 2 1/2 mi north of Gills Ranch. Consists of a gravel composed of limestone, sandstone, quartzite, and extrusive and intrusive igneous rock fragments; some claystone in thin layers and angular fragments. Size and shape of fragments are sand to boulders, angular to subrounded, mostly smoothed edges with some clay. Ranges in thickness from 1 to 25 ft. Lies 60 to 80 ft above arroyos. Overlies Madden Gravel (new); underlies Ramey Gravel (new). Stratigraphic table. Geologic maps.
