Summary:

Named as a member of Moretown formation. Named for Coburn Hill in town of Newport, northern VT. Consists of massive light-green, greenish-gray-weathering fine-grained actinolite-chlorite-albite-epidote greenstone and massive, dense, very dark-green, drab-weathering, fine-grained hornblende-albite-epidote amphibolite with relict ophitic to diabasic texture. Interbedded with slate, graywacke, and fine conglomerate strata. Pillow structure in greenstone and amphibolite described at several localities. Unit is intergradational within upper part of Moretown formation. Age is Middle Ordovician.
