Summary:

Named for Avawatz Mountains. Type locality designated as exposures along wash above Sheep Creek Spring between 2000 and 2800 ft elev., NW/4 T17N R6E, Avawatz Pass 15' quad, San Bernardino Co, CA. Consists of granitoid rocks ranging from quartz monzodiorite to quartz monzonite to granodiorite to granite. Equivalent to (informal) Avawatz quartz monzodiorite of Spencer (1981, 1987). Age is Jurassic based on U/Pb zircon age of 177 +/-10 Ma.
