Type section: upper part on face of Shamrock Stone quarry and hill to west of KY Highway 55, along Butler Branch about 3.5 mi south-southeast of Cane Valley and 1.8 mi north-northeast of Columbia; lower part in diamond drillhole, Adair Co., south-central KY (Kepferle and Lewis, 1974).
