Type Locality:
Type section: Partial section measured along old trolley line about 0.7 mile southeast of Buffalo Springs, Lebanon Co., PA (Gray and others, 1958).

Unit Name History:
Named Buffalo Springs member of Conococheague formation (Gray and others, 1958). Revised to Buffalo Springs Formation of Conococheague Group (Gray and others, 1960). Overview (Meisler and Becher, 1968). Overview (Berg and others, 1980).
