Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: exposure in south margin of large gravel pit and in adjacent deep cut along PA Highway 8, Cherry Tree Twp., Venango Co., about 1.6 mi south of post office in Titusville, 1.2 mi southwest of Drake well, and 1.7 mi west of the Strawbridge pit, northwestern PA (White and Totten, 1965).
