Type locality (composite): (1) at Limekiln Rapids, in SW/4 NW/4 sec. 3, T. 6 N., R. 46 E., Black Butte 7.5-min quadrangle, WA; (2) at Joseph Creek, in SW/4 NW/4 sec. 3, T. 6 N., R. 46 E., Black Butte 7.5-min quadrangle, WA; and (3) at Pruitt Draw, in NE/4 NE/4 sec. 12, T. 30 N., R. 4 W., Wapshilla Creek 7.5-min quadrangle, ID. Origin of name not stated by authors, but probably named from Teepee Butte, [Lat. 45 deg. 53 min. 07 sec. N., Long. 117 deg. 03 min. 00 sec. W.], Teepee Butte 7.5-min quadrangle, OR (U.S. Board on Geographic Names personal commun., 1993) (Reidel and Tolan, 1992).
